HUB South East recently handed over a cheque for £24,000 to the Grassmarket Community Project (GCP) following a successful charity golf event.
This was the second event organised by the development partner to public sector bodies in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Borders, having previously raised £15,000 for GCP in 2015. The money raised will be used to provide a counselling service and outreach programme.
Three hub South East Tier One Contractors – BAM, GRAHAM and Morrison Construction – were the primary sponsors of this year’s event.
Jo Elliot, hub South East’s chair said, “We are immensely proud that since 2015 Hub South East has continued to support the Grassmarket Community Project, an inspiring local charity and social enterprise making a real difference to the lives of its members. Thanks to the sponsorship of our three main contractors, as well as the support of a great number of supply chain partners, we raised a fantastic £24,000 at our 2017 Charity Golf Day – demonstrating that the hub programme can deliver real community benefit.”
Jonny Kinross, chief executive of Grassmarket Community project added, “We are totally overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity that hub South East and its supply chain has shown our project and the people we support.”
Bruce Dickson, BAM Construction’s regional director said, “At BAM we strongly believe in supporting the local communities that we work in and that we can make a difference. We were delighted to be offered the opportunity by hub South East to participate in this event and that as a result we have helped, along with our fellow sponsors and members of our supply chains, to raise such a significant amount of money for the Grassmarket Community Project. These are inspirational people doing amazing things and we hope that these funds allow them to keep making that difference.”
Craig Bridges, regional development director at GRAHAM Construction added, “Supporting our local communities together with the lasting legacy of the projects we are delivering lie at the heart of our business in Scotland. We continue to work in partnership with hub South East and are delighted to have supported this event. Grassmarket Community Project is an incredible organisation which makes such a huge difference, especially around this time of year. The funds raised will help people across Edinburgh through counselling and outreach – having a lasting impact. Well done and thank you to everyone involved.”
David Wilson, operations director for Morrison Construction commented, “It has been a great privilege to play a continuing part in hub South East’s Charity Golf Day and to give back to the communities in which we work. Most importantly we’ve raised much needed funds and helped to raise awareness of the Grassmarket Community Project and its valuable work to a wider audience. We first engaged with the team at Grassmarket in 2015 supplying timber from trees felled from the Royal Edinburgh Hospital site and it has been great to see the timber come to life through the initiatives undertaken within the project.”
