SIXTEEN Perth school pupils have been given a sneak peak of the construction works at the new £1 billion Bertha Park village.
Perth pupils see Bertha Park progress
The youngsters from eight local schools visited Robertson Tayside’s Bertha Park High School site, which forms part of the wider village currently being developed.
The pupils will take part in six visits as part of the Robertson Reporters programme. They will see a new area of construction work each time and then provide feedback to their classmates.
The introductory session began with a presentation before heading out on site to check on progress of the facility with site manager Stuart Giles.
Gemma Gourlay, director of social sustainability at Robertson Group said, “We created the Robertson Reporters programme to bring local pupils to our projects on their doorstep to help give them an inside look and understanding of everything involved in bringing a project to life – from initial planning right through to completion.
“The pupils will then digest their learning by delivering key points from each session back in the classroom, helping build their confidence and communication skills – both key Curriculum for Excellence themes.
“It’s both a unique and immensely valuable opportunity for the pupils to be invested right from the start in a project that will completely change the future of Perth – with many of them going on to attend the new school in the coming years.”
Convener of Perth & Kinross Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee, Councillor Caroline Shiers added, “Perth & Kinross Council’s priority is to provide high quality educational environments to enhance the learning experiences of our pupils. I am delighted that local young people are being given the opportunity to participate in the development of the new school premises at Bertha Park through the Robertson Reporters Programme.
“This scheme ensures that the Council’s commitment to providing excellent learning environments continues to be realised with this new and very welcome addition to our school estate in Perth and Kinross at Bertha Park.”
The new Bertha Park High School is due to open for the 2019 school year.
