THE new £26 million Brechin Community Campus has benefited from “unique” advanced roofing techniques, according to membrane manufacturer Protan.

The three-level facility, designed and built by jmarchitects with infrastructure group Robertson Construction, provides teaching space  for 800 pupils.

Protan said the L-shaped roof of the glass and concrete main structure has been weather-proofed by WF Price Roofing, using 2,600m2 of light grey Protan SE 1.2mm single ply membrane, on top of a concrete slab, thermal insulation and Protan VB250 vapour control layer.

The single ply membrane was delivered prefabricated, in roll widths of 3.96m, ready for mechanical fixing.

Protan’s Andy Nelson explained, “Our ability to prefabricate was a key factor in our selection for the project.

“No other single ply manufacturer can deliver that service. We calculate the most cost-efficient use of membrane, and in our controlled factory environment create the rolls of material to correspond, without the impact of site issues such as weather, debris and workmanship.

“It massively accelerates roof construction time, significantly reducing the amount of cutting, welding, and waste on site.”
