Lochmaben-based roofing firm Russell Roof Tiles is supporting two of its young staff members to mark Apprenticeship Week 2016.
Jack Jones, 18, started with the company as a trainee maintenance fitter and is currently going through full maintenance induction, shadowing experienced fitters.
Kieran Jackson, also 18, is a trainee fitter and is learning on-site and will develop onto external courses by the end of the year.
The company employs 50 members of stuff under 30, with 11 being under 25, across its two sites in Lochmaben and Burton upon Trent.
Managing director, Andrew Hayward, commented, “There is a huge skills gap in manufacturing especially the construction sector so it is vital that we find and nurture capable young individuals who we can invest in and help shape the future of the business.”
Bruce Laidlaw, production director, added, “There has never been a better time to work in the construction sector and since joining us both Kieran and Jack have shown great promise and we’re looking forward to attracting more young people to join the team here.”
