THE Bridge, a new office building in Stepps, commissioned by Scottish Water and built by BAM Construction, has been short-listed in this year’s prestigious British Construction Awards.

Located next door to BAM’s own Scottish HQ at Buchanan Gate Business Park, the four-storey building, which spans 7,300 sq ft, was designed by Reich and Hall architects.

The £15m flagship building is one of the most environmentally friendly buildings of its kind, not just in Scotland but in Europe. The building, which features a large central atrium to maximise natural ventilation and light, utilises the thermal mass of the concrete frame, a biomass boiler, thermal water heating, photovoltaic panels, sustainable urban drainage systems, rainwater harvesting and an intelligent management system to maximise the building’s environmental performance.

Doug Keillor, Regional Director, BAM Construction said, “Scottish Water had real vision with their new office, embracing energy efficiency features that would make an impact on the building’s carbon footprint, we have all learned from building this project.”

A panel of 32 judges, chaired by Alison Nimmo CBE of The Crown Estate, took eight weeks to deliver on the short-listed selection for the 12 award categories.  Those short-listed will be considered for a further four awards including Best Practice, Health & Safety, Outstanding Contribution and Sustainability.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London in October.
