Work begins on £7.5m Cowdenbeath development

CONSTRUCTION is underway on a new 51,500 sq ft industrial development on the Glenfield Industrial Estate in Cowdenbeath.

The CRT Property, of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT), development will deliver industrial units, ranging from approximately 3,000 to 20,000 sq ft, providing flexible space to support local businesses to grow, creating jobs, and opportunities to benefit the Fife economy. Kilmac is main contractor, with work scheduled for completion in autumn 2027.

Funding of £3.75 million was secured by Fife Council through the Scottish Government’s regeneration capital grant fund to support the project, with the UK providing £2.5 million of funding, and CRT Property providing the remaining amount.

The charitable work of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust in Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government. Since 2023 in Cowdenbeath and Fife the CRT has supported 268 people through training courses.

In addition, the CRT works with a number of grassroots community organisations and has provided 13 grants worth £23,730 since April 2026. This industrial development will provide long term funding to continue its work in coalfield communities for years to come, the trust said.

Nicky Wilson, director at CRT Property, said, “This is CRT Property’s first industrial development in Scotland and an exciting opportunity to create a scheme which will benefit Cowdenbeath and communities across Fife for a generation.

“Not only will the final units provide a significant number of new jobs but this is just the start, as we are keen to build more industrial developments across the Scottish coalfields.

“We are looking forward to the difference this will make for coalfield communities in Scotland.”
