MORRISON Construction has been appointed to complete the RIBA Stage 3 and 4 design for the replacement Beeslack Community High School in Midlothian.

The school will provide capacity for 1,200 pupils, with core accommodation such as dining, gym halls and social areas for 1,400 pupils. The school will also include a swimming pool, additional support needs (ASN) provision, community, and external sports facilities.

The severe and complex medical needs (SCMN) provision, previously proposed as part of the campus, will now be located at another site in Midlothian, the region’s local authority said.

The anticipated completion and opening of the new school are programmed for the end of 2029, it added.  A proposal of application notice for the project has been submitted, ahead of the submission of a full planning application for the redesigned school in January 2027.
