ROBERTSON Construction Central East has provided a new electric minibus as part of the contractor’s commitment to delivering lasting social value through Clackmannanshire’s Wellbeing Village and Lochies School project.
Throughout construction, the nine-seater vehicle is being used for a range of social impact initiatives, including supporting Clackmannanshire Council’s education team, helping charities with donation collections, and providing transport for community events and wider activities.
It is also being used to help participants travel to and from the on-site Robertson Skills Academy and work placements on the project. The Skills Academy offers practical insight into construction careers through taster sessions delivered by Robertson, its supply chain partners and education bodies.
Next autumn, when the project completes, the minibus will be donated to Clackmannanshire Council, supporting the campus and the work of the Lochies School, a specialist educational provision for primary-aged children with profound, multiple, severe and complex additional support needs.
Management partner hub East Central joined Robertson on-site recently to see the vehicle in action.
David Cairns, regional MD, Robertson Construction Central East, said, “The donation of the minibus is one of the many local targeted benefits that we are delivering at the Alloa project for Clackmannanshire Council. Wherever we work, it’s important that the local community is supported and given the right opportunities to benefit from both the work we deliver and the high-quality projects that we create.
“We’ve already seen the minibus support the local community and we hope it will continue to make things a little easier for people. We look forward to delivering a quality leisure, learning and wellbeing environment that is inclusive, accessible and meets the needs of all.”
Brian Craig, chief executive, hub East Central Scotland, added, “By embedding social impact into the delivery of major public infrastructure we can make a positive difference to communities from the outset. The donation of the minibus is just one example of that and how excellent collaboration throughout this project can support and enhance local communities.”
The new campus will include swimming pools, fitness suites, a games hall, soft play, climbing, conference and meeting facilities and a new public park, alongside contemporary classrooms and specialist facilities for Lochies School pupils. It will be one of the first large-scale community facilities in Scotland to be built to Passivhaus standards.
Community spaces, a café, outdoor play and social spaces, and flexible rooms for social prescribing, learning and cultural activities will also be delivered.
