A new walking route connecting Cala Homes’ Saltcoats Grange development with the heart of Gullane has opened, improving access to the village and creating a safer route for local schoolchildren.
The path runs from the site through Millennium Wood to Memorial Park, providing a pedestrian connection towards Gullane Primary School.
Seven street lighting columns have been installed along the route, while the surrounding recreational land is being reseeded as part of the final landscaping works. Following consultation with residents and East Lothian Council biodiversity and landscape officers, Cala will also replace all 21 trees which have been felled as part of the path’s construction.
Delivered by Cala Homes (East), the path forms part of the housebuilder’s commitment to improving connectivity around its Saltcoats development and ensuring the new neighbourhood is well integrated with the existing Gullane community.
It builds on more than 1.2 kilometres of pedestrian and cycle-friendly routes previously funded and delivered by the firm around the site and the west of Gullane, including another recently completed path which links the north side of Saltcoats Grange to Muirfield Gardens.
Telfer King, assistant site manager at Cala Homes, said, “We have always recognised that creating new homes is about much more than the homes themselves. It is about making sure new neighbourhoods connect naturally with the communities around them and leave a positive legacy for local people. This new path creates an important connection between Saltcoats Grange, Gullane Primary School and the wider village, giving residents and families a safer and more convenient way to make everyday journeys on foot.
“Having invested in Gullane for almost a decade, we are very pleased to see this latest piece of infrastructure completed and adding to the network of walking and cycling routes we have helped deliver across the area.”
In March 2026, East Lothian Council also approved plans allowing an upgraded former haul road around Saltcoats to remain permanently available to walkers and cyclists, further improving active travel infrastructure on the Gullane side of the wider network.
