A topping out ceremony has marked a milestone in the build of a new 54-bed care home in Broughty Ferry.
The event was held by Meallmore at the Sutherland House Care Home site on Dalhousie Road, which is due to open in spring 2027. The team was joined by local MP Lara Bird.
Ms Bird met senior members of the Meallmore team, as well as the construction team from CHAP Group to speak about the plans for the future of Sutherland House and what it means for the local community.
The £14 million care home care home is being developed by Meallmore. On completion, Sutherland House will provide residential, nursing and dementia care, supporting individuals living with frailty, dementia and age-related health needs.
The luxury care home will feature private en-suite rooms for 54 residents and will create 60-70 jobs full-time equivalent jobs.

Lara Bird MP commented, “Investment such as this is huge for Broughty Ferry. Not only is it bringing jobs into the area, but it’s bringing a real sense of community. I was so delighted to meet with the team to see how invested they are in giving back to the community whilst they’re going through the project. Projects like Southerland House are important because their focus is on providing really high-quality care that is tailored to the individual; putting the family at the heart of that care and making sure that there is a positive experience. This is exactly what social care should look like.”
The three-storey care home has been designed to complement the surrounding area.
Meallmore currently operates 27 homes across Scotland: 21 for older people, five for adults with mental health needs and one for adults with learning or physical disability. Two other new homes are in development, which will provide services for elderly people in Aberdeen and Clarkston.
