Build of affordable homes underway in Bishopton

WORK is underway on the build of 23 new affordable homes at Dargavel Village in Bishopton through a partnership between Sanctuary Scotland and Persimmon Homes.

Sanctuary Scotland’s head of development, Gordon Lee, was joined by convener of Renfrewshire Council’s communities and housing board, councillor Marie McGurk, and Persimmon Homes’ MD, Chris Logan, to mark the site start.

The development forms part of the wider Dargavel Village masterplan, created on the former BAE site. Located at the heart of the growing community, the new homes sit alongside the existing Persimmon Homes and Charles Church development.

The development will deliver 23 energy-efficient affordable homes, comprising eight two-bedroom cottage flats, seven two-bedroom mid-terrace homes, and eight three-bedroom end-terrace homes. Designed to meet a range of housing needs, every property will feature solar PV panels to improve energy efficiency and help reduce household energy costs.

The project has been supported by £2.7 million in grant funding from the Scottish Government.

Sanctuary Scotland’s head of development, Gordon Lee, said, “It is fantastic to see construction start at Dargavel Village, which has established itself as a thriving new community with excellent local amenities and facilities.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Persimmon Homes to deliver these much-needed affordable homes, particularly those for larger families, which are in high demand locally. We look forward to seeing the development take shape over the coming months as the wider vision for Dargavel Village continues to become a reality.”

Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s communities and housing policy board, councillor Marie McGurk, added, “I’m excited to see work start on site at Dargavel Village. The creation of these new homes will help to meet the need for affordable homes in the area and aligns with our continued committed to create warm, welcoming and comfortable places for people to live. I look forward to seeing work progress on site over the coming months.”

Chris Logan, Persimmon Homes West Scotland MD, said, “We’re delighted to be working with Sanctuary Scotland to deliver these 23 affordable homes at Dargavel Village.

“The development is already home to a growing community, and these new homes will help meet local demand for quality, energy-efficient housing. We’re looking forward to seeing the homes take shape and welcoming more families to Dargavel Village.”
