Threesixty Architecture has completed the heritage-led transformation of the G1 Building on Glasgow’s George Square.
The project is said to have delivered a renewed workplace experience described as celebrating the building’s historic character while meeting the demands of modern occupiers.
Commissioned by Union Investment, the work has reimagined the building’s principal reception, arrival experience and occupier amenities, creating a ‘contemporary, high-quality’ workplace destination.
Originally serving as Glasgow’s Head Post Office and central Telephone Exchange, the new architectural additions draw inspiration from its past. The design interventions introduce a ‘warm, tactile’ material palette and layered textures that ‘subtly reinterpret’ historical postal motifs.
In addition to the reinvented reception area, the project introduces upgraded end-of-trip facilities, active travel infrastructure, and shared spaces designed to support flexible, wellbeing-focused working patterns.
“G1 demonstrates how established city-centre assets can evolve to meet the expectations of today’s occupiers without losing the character that makes them important to the city,” said Kieron Goodman, director at Threesixty Architecture. “By drawing on the building’s original purpose and heritage, we’ve created a workplace environment that supports wellbeing, flexibility and long-term sustainability while giving the asset a renewed sense of identity.”
