FALKIRK-based GBSS Civil Engineering has supported 15 employees in achieving SVQs across a range of construction disciplines over the past year.
The news follows a targeted effort from the firm to address the growing skills shortage across the construction industry.
GBSS is investing in its workforce by supporting team members through Level 2 Modern Apprenticeships in construction and civil engineering operations, including general construction, kerb and channel laying, and drainage. By developing talent from within, the business explained that it aims to strengthen its pipeline of skilled workers while helping to address wider industry pressures.
A further 10 employees have recently enrolled and are now working towards completing their qualifications, demonstrating strong engagement across the business and a continued commitment to skills development.
David Owens, GBSS Civil Engineering MD, said, “Skills are a major issue in our industry right now. We need to ensure that people entering construction roles have the support to continue developing throughout their careers. It is not just about initial apprenticeship training, but ongoing, long-term development. Without that, we risk losing valuable knowledge and expertise as experienced workers retire.
“Balancing work and study is a significant commitment, and it requires the right support from within the business. I am incredibly proud of our latest cohort for achieving their qualifications while continuing to deliver high standards on site.”
