WORK is to begin this week on a £500,000 upgrade of the footbridge at Carluke Railway Station in South Lanarkshire.
More than 5,000 people use the station every week, with around 75 daily services helping connect the town to Glasgow and the surrounding area.
The bridge, which links platforms 1 and 2, will undergo repairs to the concrete structure and supporting steelwork. Lighting will be replaced, new handrails and anti-slip surfaces installed on the stairs, and paintwork will be touched up where required.
Anthony Trodden, scheme project manager at Network Rail, said, “Footbridges are a vital part of stations, and it’s important we continue to invest in their upkeep. These improvements will extend the lifespan of the bridge, improve safety and help ensure the footbridge continues to provide a reliable route between platforms. We understand this may cause some inconvenience and would like to thank passengers and residents for their patience while these essential improvements are completed.”
