SHEET Piling (UK) Ltd (SPUK) has hailed the impact of Scottish projects on the company’s success as it celebrates 30 years in business in 2026.
Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Preston, Lancashire, SPUK has been delivering specialist sheet piling solutions across the UK for three decades. Preston sits directly on the M6 corridor, which keeps the business’s plant, piles and site teams within easy reach of the central belt and the wider Scottish road network.
As far back as the late 1990s, SPUK was delivering works at Inverkip Marina for William Harte Construction and a pumping station project at Balmossie for Bechtel Morrison. Early water and utilities sector commissions helped establish the company’s credentials in regulated industries north of the border.
That foundation has been built upon steadily ever since, with Scottish projects spanning flood defence, water and wastewater infrastructure, marine and waterway works, and civil engineering schemes from the Borders to the Highlands.
30 years on, SPUK prides itself on remaining the same business at its core, describing the company as a specialist rather than a generalist. Sheet piling is all the business does, and the depth of capability that comes with that focus is what sets it apart. The firm operates the UK’s only long reach telescopic leader rigs and a fleet of silent pile presses for noise and vibration sensitive environments. An in-house design team and approximately 20,000 tonnes of low-carbon EMSTEEL Group GreenSheetPile in stock complete the picture.
In more recent years, SPUK’s Scottish portfolio has included major flood alleviation and environmental resilience schemes. The Comrie Flood Protection Scheme in Perthshire was a £27 million project delivered on behalf of Balfour Beatty for Perth and Kinross Council. This saw SPUK install 2.8km of permanent steel sheet pile flood walls, protecting over 189 homes from a 1-in-200-year flood event.
The company’s Scottish work is not limited to the mainland either. The upgrade of Tarbert Ferry Terminal on the Isle of Harris demonstrated a willingness and capability to work in remote and logistically demanding locations.
Looking ahead, SPUK is currently preparing for works at Annan Harbour in Dumfries and Galloway. The business has been appointed to carry out sheet piling works as part of a £15.6 million community-led regeneration of the historic harbour on the Solway Firth.
