GLASGOW-based retrofitting and energy services specialist, Union Technical, has been named on the Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50.
The news follows founders, Owen Coyle and Michael Sweeney’s, recognition as Scottish regional winners at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year UK Awards, an accolade that saw them invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street attended by the chancellor of the exchequer.
Union Technical was one of 50 companies selected for the new Fast 50 index from across the country, chosen for recording average annual revenue growth of at least 20% over its two most recent financial years.
Owen Coyle, founding director of Union Technical, said, “Being named on Scotland’s first Fast 50 is a moment to be proud of, and it belongs to the whole team. Getting here hasn’t been easy. Government schemes have shifted, funding has stopped and started, and we’ve had to keep the business steady through all of it.
“What keeps us going is the bigger picture. Scotland’s housing stock still needs a huge amount of work to become warmer and cheaper to run, and we’ve built Union Technical to be here for that job long after this list is forgotten.
“That’s why we keep pushing for a longer-term commitment to schemes like ECO. Homeowners, landlords and installers all need certainty to plan properly, and short funding cycles make that harder than it should be.
“Give this sector a stable, long-term framework and firms like ours can get on with the job of making Scotland’s homes fit for the future.”
Founded in Glasgow in 2014 by Owen Coyle and Michael Sweeney, later joined by Owen’s sister Suzanne, Union Technical installs insulation, solar panels, heat pumps and heating systems, including through fuel-poverty and energy-efficiency programmes. What started as a gap the founders spotted in the market for an all-in-one energy efficiency service has grown into a firm serving homeowners, tenants, local authorities and social and private landlords across the UK.
