Shawfair builder backs litter-picking initiative

Midlothian litter picking initiative

HOUSEBUILDER Dundas has teamed up with Danderhall & District Guerrilla Gardeners to support a local primary school litter-picking initiative in Midlothian.

Dundas has donated 20 high-vis vests and gardening gloves to the group, enabling children from Danderhall Primary to safely take part in litter-picking activities in the local area.

The initiative is led by Danderhall & District Guerrilla Gardeners, a volunteer-run community organisation dedicated to improving green spaces and encouraging environmental stewardship among residents of all ages. Representatives from Dundas recently joined members of the group and local schoolchildren for a litter-picking session, illustrating the positive impact community partnerships can have in creating cleaner, greener neighbourhoods.

Helen Graham, chairperson of Danderhall & District Guerrilla Gardeners, said, “We’re immensely grateful to Dundas for supporting our young litter-pickers. The donation of high visibility vests and gloves means the children can take part safely and confidently, while learning the importance of caring for their local environment. It’s excellent to see local businesses getting involved and helping us inspire the next generation to take pride in their community.”

Located six miles from Edinburgh city centre, Dundas’ Shawfair development offers a collection of five and six-bedroom homes within the growing community.

Craig Fairfoull, group director at Dundas, added, “One of the most rewarding parts of building new communities is being able to support the people and organisations that make them such great places to live. When we heard about the fantastic work being carried out by Danderhall & District Guerrilla Gardeners, and the enthusiasm local children have shown for keeping their community clean, we were keen to get involved.

“It’s inspiring to see young people taking such pride in their local area and learning the importance of caring for the environment from an early age. We hope the equipment we’ve provided helps support the group’s efforts and encourages even more children to get involved in making a positive impact across Danderhall.”
