McTaggart marks anniversary year with Simon Community Scotland donation

Giant cheque being handed over to charity

MCTAGGART Construction has donated £25,000 to Simon Community Scotland as part of its 80th anniversary charitable giving programme.

Working with adults and young people across Scotland, Simon Community Scotland provides safe places, support and hope to people experiencing homelessness. This includes support hubs, emergency and supported accommodation, help to retain a tenancy and support for people moving into homes of their own. The charity also leads on digital inclusion for people experiencing homelessness and runs Scotland’s first Managed Alcohol Programme, a harm reduction service.

A significant portion of the donation has been directed to the Connect Hub in Glasgow, a specialist, safe space for women experiencing homelessness. Funding has also been set aside for opportunities and experience days in North Lanarkshire, as well as for the Make a House a Home initiative, which helps people transition into settled accommodation after a period of homelessness.

The remainder of the donation has gone towards improvements to the community gardens managed through Simon Community Scotland’s Managed Alcohol Programme.

Janice Russell, MD of McTaggart Construction, said, “Marking our 80th anniversary has given us the opportunity to reflect on the communities we’ve built and worked in over eight decades. Supporting Simon Community Scotland’s work feels like the right thing to do. The services they provide, particularly for women experiencing homelessness, make a real and lasting difference to people’s lives. We hope this donation goes some way towards sustaining that vital work.”

Lorraine McGrath, CEO of Simon Community Scotland, added, “We are extremely grateful to everyone at McTaggart Construction for their generous support, through their extremely kind donation and the hands on support to improve our garden space at our Managed Alcohol Programme. The team at McTaggart Construction have demonstrated exceptional understanding of our values, work and ambition to direct their donation to key areas that will make a real difference to the lives of people we support, our safe places and our team.”

As part of its relationship with the Connect Hub, McTaggart Construction employee Sarah Freel has also joined as a hub ambassador.

The donation forms part of a wider commitment by McTaggart Construction to support communities across Scotland, with a total of £80,000 donated to three organisations as part of the firm’s anniversary programme in 2026.
