Cork-headquartered firm to lead build of £76m Sauchiehall Street student development

CFIELD Construction has been appointed to lead the £79 million build of Fusion Group’s 633-bed purpose-built student accommodation development on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street.

The announcement comes alongside Fusion Group appointing the Cork-headquartered firm to lead the build of its £97 million mixed-use scheme in the Wood Green area of London – with both contracts representing a combined value of £176 million and are scheduled to complete ahead of the 2028 academic year.

Ground has been broken in Glasgow on the student accommodation scheme. The project will retain the building’s existing 1930’s Art Deco façade and aims to rejuvenate the local streetscape in part by reinstating the historic Wellington arcade whilst providing ‘sustainable, community-driven’ urban living tailored for students.

Gavin O’Flaherty, CField Construction MD, commented, “Securing these two major contracts with Fusion Group is an important milestone for CField Construction and a strong endorsement of our team’s delivery capability in the living sector. Wood Green and Sauchiehall Street are both high-profile, complex urban schemes, and our focus is now on delivering them safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

“We look forward to working closely with Fusion Group and the wider project teams to bring forward high-quality accommodation and affordable homes that make a positive contribution to their local communities.”

André Ferdinand, projects director at Fusion Group, added, “We are delighted to partner with CField Construction on these two flagship schemes. This collaboration brings together a shared commitment to construction excellence, innovative design, and architectural distinction. Wood Green and Sauchiehall Street are pivotal to our growth strategy, and CField’s proven delivery capability aligns with our strategic priorities of opening two high quality developments for the 2028 intake.”
