Balfour Beatty announces new MD of major projects arm

Angus Murray

BALFOUR Beatty has announced the appointment of Angus Murray as MD of its UK major projects business.

Angus will oversee a portfolio of projects supporting the delivery of some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes – including Hinkley Point C and Net Zero Teesside. He will also lead Balfour Beatty’s engagement in emerging complex infrastructure markets, including small modular reactors and the UK reservoir programme.

He brings over 30 years’ experience to the role, with a strong track record in leading complex, large-scale infrastructure programmes. Angus most recently served as chief executive of Connect Plus, the 30-year consortium that includes Balfour Beatty, which is responsible for managing and operating the M25 network on behalf of National Highways.

Angus will be succeeded as chief executive of Connect Plus by Alvaro del Palacio Tornos, who will join the business in September 2026.

Prior to Connect Plus, Angus held a number of senior leadership roles including nearly two decades at Fluor Corporation, where he served as VP of operations for its advanced technologies and life sciences business across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He started his career as a civil engineer with Tarmac.

Phil Clifton, Balfour Beatty Divisional CEO, UK energy & major projects, said, “Angus is already a valued member of the Balfour Beatty team and brings first-hand experience of leading some of the UK’s most complex infrastructure programmes. He understands what it takes to deliver safely, reliably and at scale, and his appointment reflects the strength of talent we have across Balfour Beatty.

“His operational experience, customer focus and track record of leading high-performing teams, makes him well placed to take our Major Projects business forward as we deliver for customers today and pursue the next generation of major infrastructure opportunities.”

Angus Murray commented, “I’m proud to be taking on this role and to build on the strong track record of our major projects business. I’m looking forward to working with our fantastic team and customers to deliver complex infrastructure well, and to make sure our projects create real opportunities for local communities.”
