NEW figures have revealed that more than 50 public bodies in Scotland are now contributing project information to the Construction Pipeline Forecast Tool.

The free-to-access platform, developed and managed by the Scottish Futures Trust, now contains details of 1,429 planned projects valued at just under £20 billion, with delivery scheduled through to 2035.

Recent additions to the platform include projects from Scottish Water, island community trusts and third sector organisations.

Designed to provide greater certainty for the construction industry and public bodies, the Construction Pipeline Forecast Tool aims to enable businesses to better plan resources, investment and workforce requirements by offering early visibility of upcoming opportunities.

The latest figures show that 650 of the listed projects are valued below £2 million, highlighting the platform’s importance for small and medium-sized businesses seeking public sector work.

Claire Pollock, associate director working in the data & insights team at the Scottish Futures Trust, said, “Against a backdrop of global economic and geopolitical uncertainty, it is vital that Scotland’s construction sector is supported by increased visibility of the pipeline of projects. This helps construction and consultancy businesses to plan with greater confidence and public bodies to understand more fully what others are doing. The continued engagement and support of our public sector partners is greatly appreciated, and we have seen an increase in membership and usage of the platform.”

Providing industry with visibility of future public sector work is one of the ten pillars outlined in the Transformation Action Plan developed by the Construction Leadership Forum.

The latest pipeline update also reveals that just under £16 billion worth of projects are expected to be completed by 2030, with approximately 55% of this pipeline to be delivered across housing, civil engineering and education projects.

To help industry make the most of the platform and better understand emerging opportunities, the team will host a free webinar on Monday 22 June. The session will demonstrate market trends shaping Scotland’s construction pipeline and provide guidance on how users can access insights and opportunities through the platform.
