Housebuilder is the bee’s knees with Nairn initiative

Insect house at Nairn development

BARRATT Homes is celebrating World Bee Day today by offering residents at a new development in Nairn the chance to install a special insect home in their garden.

The housebuilder, which is currently building a new community at Sandy Shores in the Highland town, is on a mission to help make the development and surrounding area more bee-friendly.

The bee and bug homes will provide another habitat for little creatures and a safe nesting environment for bees, which play a vital role in pollination but often struggle to find suitable shelter.

Felipe Ferreira, sales director for Barratt Homes North Scotland, said, “We’re looking forward to marking World Bee Day by encouraging Sandy Shores residents to create new habitats for vital pollinators at our Nairn development. Bees play an essential role in supporting biodiversity, and installing bee and bug homes is a simple but effective way to help the local bee population to thrive.

“Designing communities that work in harmony with nature is central to Barratt Homes’ ethos. Alongside features such as open green spaces, we hope initiatives like this will encourage the community to take small, positive steps of their own to support wildlife and help create a more sustainable future.”

World Bee Day is celebrated on 20 May each year to raise awareness of the role of bees and other pollinators in the ecosystem.
