EGIS has announced the appointment of Shakir Khaja as aviation sector director for Europe and Africa.

He will oversee the architecture, engineering and consulting firm’s expansion across the airport sector, with a strategic focus on the UK, Ireland and wider European market.

Shakir brings more than 25 years of international aviation experience, having led programmes and initiatives for airports including Heathrow, London City and Fraport Greece. He joins from Arcadis, where he served as senior director for the aviation sector, and is also a board member of the British Aviation Group.

Egis works with over 100 airports in more than 40 countries, including Heathrow, Gatwick and Dublin. The company also operates a network of 21 airports worldwide, providing direct operational insight alongside its advisory and engineering expertise.

Martin Vallance, transport and mobility consulting director, Egis in the UK, said, “Shakir brings exceptional aviation expertise and a proven track record of delivering complex airport programmes across some of the most challenging environments globally. He combines deep technical understanding with strong commercial insight and a clear ability to drive outcomes at both operational and programme level. We’re thrilled to have him on board as we continue to strengthen our position in the UK and Ireland.”

Shakir added, “Egis has a strong global reputation in aviation and a breadth of capability across airport advisory, development and operations. There is a clear opportunity to bring this expertise together more cohesively across the UK, Ireland and wider Europe, and to work closely with airport partners to deliver long-term, sustainable value. I’m looking forward to building on this foundation and helping establish Egis as a trusted advisor to airports as they address the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
