SCOTLAND’S construction sector is being invited to attend a free industry briefing in Glasgow next month.

The Scottish Building Federation’s (SBF) Business Update Presentations event is open to the wider construction industry on Thursday 21 May at the Trades Hall of Glasgow.

The afternoon features a series of focused presentations tackling changes in employment law, giving a workforce outlook as well as updates on the Scottish Building Safety Levy – issues that are directly affecting businesses across the sector right now.

The conference-style event is free to attend, includes lunch, and will be followed by the Federation’s Annual General Meeting for those that wish to take part.

Paul Mitchell, MD of the Scottish Building Federation, said, “As we have heard time and again from the pre-election debates and coverage, a flourishing Scottish construction sector is the key to tackling many of the issue facing the country including the national housing emergency, the sustainability agenda, economic growth and youth employment.

“However, there is a concerning seam of uncertainty within the industry at the moment. Whether you’re a Federation member or not, these conference presentations are focused on issues that will affect your business and we want as many people as possible to leave better informed.”

Speakers at the event include:

  • Michael Conroy, partner with Harper MacLeod LLP, explores developments with the Building Safety Act and Scottish Building Safety Levy
  • HR & Business Advice specialist Vaughan Hart with an overview of the Employment Rights Act
  • Industry training board CITB offers some insight into Scotland’s construction workforce outlook
  • Tax planning and director registration advice from Drummond Laurie chartered accountants
  • An opportunity to get up to speed with Scottish Building Contract Committee’s new suite of Minor Works contracts and a look ahead to further SBCC releases later this year

The Business Update Presentations are being held between 2pm to 4pm on Thursday 21 May (lunch, registration and networking from 1pm) at the Trades Hall of Glasgow, 85 Glassford Street, Glasgow, G1 1UH.
