Roy MacGregor and Barry Carruthers

HIGHLANDS-headquartered Global has announced the appointment of Barry Carruthers as chief strategy officer.

Having held senior leadership roles across ScottishPower, Barry’s background spans energy portfolio development, policy influence, and clean energy investments – with a strong track record of translating government policy and market changes into credible, investable growth opportunities.

He has led the establishment of new business units including hydrogen, shaped earlystage investment cases in project development, covered a portfolio of operational assets, and engaged extensively with government, regulators, public bodies, and industry stakeholders.

At Global, he will assume responsibility for shaping and securing the firms future growth across the energy sector, focusing on market positioning, strategic acquisitions and partnerships, and disciplined pipeline creation across fabrication, engineering, ports, logistics, renewables, and the wider industrial energy market.

He will work closely with the Global leadership team to ensure alignment between growth ambition and delivery capability, supporting strategic initiatives across the Global Group to unlock sector-wide client engagement, frameworks, and strategic industry programmes.

Commenting on the appointment, Global chairman Roy MacGregor, said, Barry brings a rare combination of strategic insight, policy understanding and commercial leadership. His experience operating at the interface of government, industry and delivery will be instrumental as Global continues to grow its Energy portfolio and support the delivery of complex, largescale infrastructure and energy transition programmes.

A core element of Barry’s role will be external engagement and advocacy, positioning Global as a trusted delivery partner aligned to national and regional energy priorities. He will also act as a visible ambassador for the group, representing Global across key industry forums, conferences, and networks.

He commented, Ive had fantastic exposure in the past decade to large-scale project developments, construction programmes and operational assets.  Its that experience that highlights to me that this is absolutely the decade of deliverywith capital available and utility-scale programmes in place, its now an exciting time to see the talented companies within the Global group take on the challenges of critical delivery.

With the chairmans ambition flowing through the leadership team, we can look to grow our capabilities through our multidisciplinary portfolio of companies, but also to bring even more complementary businesses, services and skillsets into a credible, highly valued, and growing delivery group.

Im genuinely excited to see how we can collectively shape and deliver the energy landscape in the coming years, and create thousands of new career pathways across the energy landscape as we go on that journey.
