CONSTRUCTION is underway on a new £9.3 million affordable housing development at Brodick on the Isle of Arran.
The JR Group is delivering 26 new homes for social rent, on behalf of Trust Housing Association.
The new homes are being delivered close to Brodick’s village centre, local amenities and transport links – including the island’s main ferry terminal. The site offers a sustainable and accessible location, with strong links to local services and onward travel, supporting day-to-day living on Arran.
Once complete, the development will provide a mix of two and three-bedroom houses, alongside two accessible two-bedroom bungalows.
Delivering new affordable homes at Springbank also supports the wider objectives of the Arran Housing Taskforce (AHT), a multi-agency strategic partnership established to address the unique housing challenges facing the island. The AHT has highlighted the importance of increasing the supply of well-designed, affordable homes to help sustain Arran’s year-round population, support local employment, and enable younger and working-age households to remain on the island.
Gary McGregor, MD at The JR Group, said, “Starting work on Springbank in Brodick is an exciting milestone for The JR Group. With our experience in delivering housing projects across rural Scotland, we are proud to bring high-quality, affordable homes to Arran’s community.
“This development provides local residents and key workers with much-needed housing options and supports the wider local economy. Working with Trust Housing Association ensures that these homes deliver real community benefit.”
Ian Davie, director of development and sustainability at Trust Housing Association, added, “As Arran’s largest Social Landlord, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the Scottish Government, North Ayrshire Council and The JR Group to deliver these 26 new affordable homes in Brodick, playing our part in supporting the long-term social and economic sustainability of the island.
“This is our first new build project with The JR Group and we look forward to developing a long-term relationship that has the potential to deliver more affordable homes across the country that continue to meet local housing need.”
Yvonne Baulk, head of service for housing and public protection at North Ayrshire Council, added, “This development at Springbank is a welcome further step forward in addressing the demand for affordable housing on Arran.
“By working closely with our key partners, including Trust Housing Association, we are helping to deliver high quality homes that will support island sustainability, benefit local communities and enable families and key workers to continue to live and work on the island.”
Works are now underway on site, with homes expected to be completed in September 2027.
