MCTAGGART Construction has completed the delivery of 48 new affordable homes at Hebrides Drive in Dundee.

The £9.34 million development was delivered on behalf of Home Group in partnership with ORA Architects and Dundee City Council. It forms a component of the long-term regeneration masterplan for Mill O’ Mains – transforming a brownfield site into a mixed-tenure residential community.

The development offers a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses, cottage flats and flatted accommodation, all designed to Housing for Varying Needs standards and Secured by Design Gold standard. A dedicated supported living block, commissioned by Dundee City Council, broadens the range of residents served.

A meet-the-buyer event held at the outset gave local businesses direct access to contract opportunities, resulting in 11 contracts being awarded to local firms – including nine local contractors.

Four local jobs were created directly, with a further two through sub-contracting partners, and six local apprentices gained hands-on experience on site.

The development is said to have enhanced the wider Mill O’ Mains estate through improved streets, safer pedestrian routes and new landscaped green spaces. The quality of construction has been recognised through two Premier Guarantee awards.

Janice Russell, MD of McTaggart Construction, commented, “Mill O’ Mains is a great example of what can be achieved when the right partners come together around a shared ambition. We’re proud to have delivered 48 high-quality homes that will make a real difference to residents and the wider community in Dundee, and to have done so in a way that created genuine local opportunity throughout the construction process.”

Bryony Willett, director of Home Group Scotland, added, “We are incredibly proud of our work regenerating the Mill O’ Mains estate in Dundee, and these new affordable homes are an important step. We know the difference these homes will make for our customers and the community. This project has been about more than just building new homes too, with the construction work having helped create jobs locally and the energy efficient design making sure our customers’ new homes remain warm, safe and fit for the future.”

Gary Caudrey, of ORA Architects, stated, “Projects like Mill O’ Mains are a compelling example of how thoughtful design can play a central role in successful regeneration. This development brings together a variety of house types and tenures, creating a cohesive neighbourhood with sustainability at its core.

“It has been fantastic to be part of this project and put a people-focused approach to housing at the forefront. Working closely with McTaggart Construction, Home Group, and the extended design team, our initial vision has been brought to life, creating a place where people can feel at home and part of a community for years to come.”
