AS Scotland marks Scottish Apprenticeship Week, Coatbridge-based KRG Specialist Engineering has reaffirmed its commitment to developing the next generation of engineers, having supported more than 100 apprentices since the company was founded.
Operating within the defence, oil and gas and advanced manufacturing supply chains, the firm said it views apprenticeships as ‘fundamental’ to protecting skills and strengthening the UK’s industrial capability.
Many former apprentices have progressed into long-term careers within KRG and across the wider engineering sector.
MD Gerry Hughes said, “Apprenticeships are not simply about recruitment. They are about protecting capability and building resilience into the UK manufacturing base. For businesses operating in high precision and defence related sectors, skills development is a strategic priority.”
Apprentices at KRG gain hands-on experience from the outset, working with advanced CNC machinery, precision components, and complex engineering standards under the guidance of experienced mentors.
The company said it believes sustained investment in training is essential if Scotland is to remain competitive in high value manufacturing and meet the demands of defence and energy markets.
