DEMOLITION work is underway on Hector McNeil House in Greenock as part of the £24 million project to revamp the central area of the town.
Beattie Demolition is leading the work, with demolition beginning with the ramp at the rear of the building and is continuing onto the commercial units.
The wider £24 million project is being led by Balfour Beatty on behalf of Inverclyde Council. The Bullring Roundabout and eastern side of the Oak Mall Shopping Centre will also be demolished, as well as the removal of the A8 flyover.
A low-level trunk road will be created, which the council said will bring the town together rather than it being split in two. The Oak Mall will also be restructured to enhance the retail and leisure space, whilst a new open civic area will also be created.
