Clark finance director retires after more than 30 years with the business

John Mooney presented with gift on his retirement

CLARK Contracts finance director John Mooney has retired from his role after 30 years with the business.

The Paisley-based contractor said John has played a significant part in shaping the culture, values and people‑focused approach that define the firm today. He will continue to support the company as a non‑executive director.

John began his career training as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young in the 1980s, before spending six years with a general contractor. He joined Clark in 1995 as financial controller and was promoted to finance director in 2001.

The business revealed that John has been instrumental in leading the steering group, which champions Clark’s Customers 1st initiative, as well as corporate social responsibility activities, and continuous improvement across all departments and divisions. Under his guidance, the group has raised more than £50,000 for charity and made contributions toward enhancing employee benefits and overall satisfaction.

John said, “During my time with the company, I have witnessed our remarkable growth, from a turnover of £2 million in 1995 to over £130 million in 2025. It has been incredibly rewarding to support the development of our people, with many of our employees progressing through our academy to take on leadership roles.

“As I look forward to my retirement, I am excited to see the continued success of the business in the years ahead. Since the beginning of the year I have had the pleasure of working alongside my replacement as finance director Mark McPeake. There is no doubt in my mind that in handing over the reins to Mark, the company will benefit from his wealth of experience and will continue to prosper under his financial guidance.”

MD Gordon Cunningham added, “John has been a key part of Clark Contracts’ journey over the past 30 years, covering many different functions in addition to Finance at various stages in the growing business, continually going the extra mile to enhance how we work and deliver. His leadership and dedication have helped shape the business and support the growth of so many of our people. While we wish John a very happy retirement, we are delighted that he will continue to support the business as a non‑executive director.”
