THE £34 million build of the new St Stephen’s Community Hub in Coatbridge is making good progress and is on track to open later this year, North Lanarkshire Council has announced.

Morrison Construction is main contractor on the project, with Hub South West delivering it on behalf of the local authority. The wider project team includes Ryder Architecture, Struer, and RSP.

The new hub is designed to provide a modern, inclusive space that will serve pupils, families and the wider community for generations to come.

Construction is progressing well on the development, with the steel frame now in place, alongside major roof works and external brickwork. Internal partitions are also advancing.

North Lanarkshire Council leader, councillor Jim Logue, said, “It’s fantastic to see the scale of progress being made at St Stephen’s. This development represents a major investment in the future: the new hub will not only provide first-class learning facilities but will also create a vibrant space for the wider community.”

Councillor Michael McBride added, “Projects like this are about much more than bricks and mortar. They’re about opportunity, inclusion and creating a shared community asset that everyone can be proud of. Seeing the steel frame and structure now in place really shows how quickly this is moving forward.”

Once complete, the hub will provide educational facilities alongside flexible spaces that can be used by community groups and partners.

When St Stephen’s pupils move into their new home, the former Sikeside Primary School building will be demolished to make way for additional car parking.
