Refurbishment of Aberdeen swimming pool nears completion

SIGNIFICANT progress has been made in the refurbishment and recommissioning of Bucksburn Swimming Pool with work due to complete in spring 2026, Aberdeen City Council has said.

Morrison Construction, appointed in June 2025, took possession of the site in July and began initial works including internal strip-out, drainage alterations, and the formation of new foundations for an upgraded plant enclosure.

Since then, substantial upgrades have been delivered across the building as part of Aberdeen City Council’s commitment to reopening a high‑quality community swimming facility.

Councillor Alexander McLellan, convener of the Aberdeen City Council finance and resources committee, said, “Bucksburn Swimming Pool is an important community asset so it is great to see the progress being made on the refurbishment.

“The upgrades will provide a modern, accessible and energy‑efficient facility which is fit for the future. I am grateful to the community for their patience throughout the works, and we look forward to welcoming people back through the doors later this year.”

The main entrance has undergone a major transformation with new lighting to enhance the welcome for visitors. Inside the pool hall, extensive modernisation is progressing well. Completed works include flooring, wall finishes, and ceilings throughout the venue.

New accessible changing and medical rooms are being installed along with fixtures, fittings, and new plant equipment. Servicing and commissioning will follow as the project nears completion.

Graeme Dale, interim CEO at Sport Aberdeen, said, “The transformation of Bucksburn Swimming Pool will give the local community an upgraded, high-quality facility that will support positive mental and physical health.

“We appreciate the support from local residents and have been encouraged to hear positive feedback so far. We look forward to reopening once the building is handed over.”

Morrison Construction has delivered a number of local benefits, including donations to community groups, volunteering in local schools, career sessions at Bucksburn Academy, and contributions to local festive activities. Young people are also helping shape the look and feel of the refurbished facility through involvement in design and artwork.
