‘Rare’ residential development opportunity launched in Rhu

Land for sale in Rhu, Scotland's west coast

A ‘rare’ lochside development opportunity is being launched in Rhu on Scotland’s West Coast.

Savills, acting on behalf of the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club (RNCYC), is launching Ardenvohr, a 4.6‑acre site. The lochside estate is located on the eastern banks of the Gareloch and is said to combine ‘heritage architecture, extensive grounds and strong local demand’ for high‑quality homes.

Originally built in 1857 as a private villa and adopted as the clubhouse for the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club in 1937, Ardenvohr extends to 12,680 sq ft over two floors and retains many of its original period features. The estate includes the main B‑listed clubhouse, the historic gatehouse, and several ancillary buildings, set within mature gardens.

The RNCYC has undertaken initial design work with architects and masterplanners to explore how the site could be sensitively redeveloped. An indicative concept proposes around 38 units through a mix of new‑build homes and apartments formed through the conversion of the listed buildings.

Nicola Lunn, development director at Savills Scotland, said, “Ardenvohr brings together a landmark building, a generous lochside setting and a location that remains one of the most desirable in Scotland. Opportunities of this scale and quality are extremely limited on the West Coast, and we expect strong interest from developers who recognise the long‑term demand for homes in this area.”
