WORK is to get underway on a £440,000 project to make it easier for passengers to access Dunkeld & Birnam Railway Station.
Between February 4 and April 3, Network Rail will deliver a new step‑free route linking the station with Birnam Glen, as well as upgrades to the surrounding footpath network and lighting.
A new ramped footpath from the rear of Platform 2 will be introduced, as well as upgrades to the footpath beneath the railway overbridge. New lighting will columns will also be installed along Birnam Glen.
The improvements, funded by Transport Scotland, are part of a wider programme of work by Network Rail to enhance accessibility across Scotland’s Railway.
John Collins, senior sponsor of strategy and investment at Network Rail, said, “These improvements will make a real difference for everyone using the station. This work aims to create a safer and more accessible environment that supports the community’s needs now and in the future. Our teams are working hard to keep disruption to a minimum, and we’re grateful to local residents for their patience as we complete these essential upgrades.”
