CAPITAL Service Solutions Group (CSSG), a West Lothian-based specialist cleaning company, has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of its first head of HSEQ and facilities management.

Lawrence Curran joins the firm from a similar position at veterinary services company Linnaeus. A former facilities manager at South Lanarkshire Council, CSSG said he brings a wealth of experience to the new role as the business prepares for its next phase of growth.

CSSG specialises in professional cleaning, decorating and waste management and was voted Business of the Year at the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce Awards in December.

MD Moreland McDiarmid believes the arrival of Mr Curran will be a valuable asset as the company looks to strengthen its full FM capability and increase the range within its existing model from its Livingston HQ.

“We previously used external resources for health and safety and quality assurance,” he said. “We decided to fulfil these internally so rather than have a generic response to clients’ needs, we could make the process quicker, bespoke and purpose-fit not only for where we are just now but where we want to go in the future.

“Lawrence brings a wealth of experience in health and safety, with a strong track record of supporting teams to maintain high standards across a range of environments. He is vastly experienced and I’m very pleased to have him on board as part of our senior leadership team as we look to open up new avenues for the business.

“We have a three-year growth plan in place and Lawrence will play a key role in delivering on that along with his colleagues. His arrival expands our facilities management capability and oversight, giving us greater scope and depth across our existing soft services and integrated FM offering.”

Lanark-based Mr Curran has been involved in facilities management for 25 years, 12 of which were at local authority level. He said, “I was very impressed with Moreland’s vision and how he wants the business to grow,. One thing which resonated with me was his drive and focus on commitment to health and safety. It’s refreshing to see a managing director determined to galvanise this area of his organisation and our thoughts aligned on that. He sees the benefits of having someone like myself with experience of both health and safety and facilities management.

“I think this is an excellent fit for both of us. There’s a real family feel to the company. There is a work ethos, of course, but there is also a flexible approach to the day-to-day business and that is reflected in how happy the staff are and how long many of them have been with Capital.”
