TURNER & Townsend has committed £82,500 to launch 10 new scholarships for students in quantity surveying and risk management at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).

The move will support students enrolled in the School of Science and Engineering and the university’s Glasgow School for Business and Society, covering the duration of their four-year BSc and BA (Hons) programmes.

The donation builds on the success of GCU’s 150th anniversary campaign, which has attracted contributions including £500,000 from Sir Alex Ferguson CBE and alumnus Dr Murray Rowden, also of Turner & Townsend. Together, these investments are said to reflect a commitment to widening participation, breaking down financial and social barriers, and empowering the next generation of leaders in construction from diverse backgrounds − including students who are care‑experienced or estranged.

Each scholarship offers a financial stipend, dedicated mentorship, an internship bursary, and a guaranteed travel opportunity. Turner & Townsend’s programme is designed to specifically support the next generation of leaders in construction, infrastructure and risk management.

Peter McGettrick, UK operations lead at Turner & Townsend and GCU alumnus, said, “We’re delighted to partner with Glasgow Caledonian University to create fantastic opportunities for young people to forge pathways in the sector and break down societal barriers. Investing in skills is a central value for us at Turner & Townsend, as the industry works to overcome the shortage it faces today and create a dynamic workforce built for success in the long term.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how these scholarships, together with the 150th anniversary campaign can support the next generation of leaders who will go on to transform industry and society.”

Jillian Watt, director of advancement and communications at GCU, added, “We are deeply grateful to Turner & Townsend for their generosity and vision. These scholarships will transform lives, ensuring that students who face financial and social barriers can access opportunities designed to empower them to thrive. Their commitment amplifies the impact of our 150th anniversary campaign and demonstrates the power of philanthropy to shape the future of both industry and society.”
