Record social impact achievements for McTaggart Construction in 2025

MCTAGGART Construction has announced record social impact achievements across Scotland in 2025.

The contractor supported 93 people into work placements and created 46 new jobs,   whilst delivering affordable housing projects across 16 Scottish local authority areas.

The company’s social value programme in 2025 included 10 new apprenticeships created; two graduate apprenticeships; 22 people supported through work-based learning programmes; 380 hours dedicated to education and positive destination activities; eight supply chain engagement events; 32 employability partnerships; and £193,000 invested in community contributions and works.

McTaggart said the achievements reflect the principles of community wealth building, ensuring economic activity delivers maximum benefit to local communities through local employment, progressive procurement, and inclusive ownership. This approach is currently being preserved in legislation through Scotland’s Community Wealth Building Bill.

Janice Russell, MD of McTaggart Construction, said, “Our commitment to Scotland’s communities has never been stronger. These figures represent real people, real opportunities, and real investment in local economies across Scotland.

“Community wealth building isn’t just about policy, it’s about creating lasting employment, developing skills, supporting local supply chains, and ensuring that our work delivers benefits far beyond the homes we build. Every apprenticeship, every job, and every pound spent locally strengthens the communities we serve.”

Ross Hammell, CSR manager at McTaggart Construction, added, “What makes our approach distinctive is the partnership model we’ve built with local authorities, colleges, and employability organisations across Scotland. We’re not just creating opportunities, we’re actively removing barriers to employment and providing genuine career pathways.

“From care leavers taking their first steps into construction to graduates developing specialist skills, we’re seeing individuals transform their lives through meaningful work. That human impact, replicated across 16 local authority areas, is what community wealth building looks like in practice.”

McTaggart’s approach prioritises local labour recruitment, with dedicated community benefit programmes on each development. The company works closely with local authorities, housing associations, and employability partners to create pathways into construction for people facing barriers to employment, including care leavers, long-term unemployed individuals, and those furthering their education.

The contractor’s supply chain engagement events connect local SMEs with procurement opportunities, supporting the growth of Scotland’s construction sector supply base whilst keeping economic benefits within local communities.

Janice added, “Our social impact isn’t separate from our business, it’s central to who we are and how we operate. We’re proud to play our part in creating stronger, more resilient communities across Scotland.”
