BALFOUR Beatty has appointed Kay Slade as MD of the group’s UK Regional Civils business.
Kay succeeds Mark Arrandale, who has been serving as interim MD since October, and will return to his position as finance director at the end of January.
A qualified solicitor specialising in major projects, construction and engineering, Kay joined Balfour Beatty four years ago as managing counsel before taking on the position of area director for the company’s UK Regional Civils business in March 2024. Previously, she worked at Costain where she spent six years in legal and corporate roles.
Balfour Beatty said Kay has been ‘instrumental’ in reshaping the UK Regional Civils business in the north west of England, successfully consolidating its footprint, enhancing operational performance, and overseeing the delivery of multiple award-winning projects across the transport and flood and coastal markets.
Nick Crossfield, divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty’s UK construction services business, said, “Kay is an outstanding leader whose deep industry expertise and proven record of delivery speak for themselves. I am delighted she has agreed to take the helm as managing director as we look ahead to a strong pipeline of opportunities and continue to deliver for our customers.”
Kay Slade added, “I am honoured to assume this role and to lead such a highly skilled and dedicated team whose work consistently delivers meaningful and lasting benefits for the communities we serve. Having joined Balfour Beatty as managing counsel four years ago, progressing to managing director reflects both the breadth of opportunity available and the company’s strong commitment to developing talent and supporting career growth.”
