THE National Access & Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) has paid tribute to president and chairman Wayne Connolly following his sudden death.
The organisation described Wayne as a highly respected leader within NASC, CISRS, and the wider scaffolding and access sector. He began his journey with the confederation as a regional chair, prior to going on to serve as chair of the membership standards committee. In 2022, Wayne joined the NASC boards and in 2024 was appointed president and chairman of both NASC and CISRS.
Wayne also served as chair of the International Access & Scaffolding Association (IASA). In this role, he promoted collaboration, best practice, and high standards across international markets, strengthening relationships between national trade bodies and elevating the voice of the sector on a global stage.
A leading businessman in the north west, Wayne built a successful chain of automotive repair establishments before founding Connolly Scaffolding. Under his leadership, the firm grew into a well-regarded and progressive business, NASC explained, recently marked by the opening of a new office and a period of expansion.
Within NASC, Wayne was one of the key figures behind the organisation’s recent transformation. NASC revealed that he was passionate about raising standards, strengthening governance, and ensuring NASC remained a strong, credible and forward-looking voice for the industry, with his integrity, clarity of thought, and calm leadership earning him respect and admiration.
Wayne was a keen diver and had recently passed one of the highest acclaimed levels as a dive instructor.
Clive Dickin, group CEO of NASC, said, “Wayne was not only an outstanding president and chairman, but a true friend. His belief in NASC, his commitment to doing the right thing, and his determination to improve our industry will leave a lasting legacy. He gave so much of his time, wisdom and energy, and his loss will be felt deeply by us all. On a personal level, I will miss him enormously.”
NASC added that Wayne will be profoundly missed by his colleagues, friends, and the many people whose lives and careers he influenced. The organisation extended its deepest sympathies to Wayne’s fiancé, Nicola, his family, and everyone at Connolly Scaffolding at this difficult time.
Details of the funeral service and donations will be published on the NASC website in the coming days.
