PROGRESS made on the £26 million redevelopment of Kilmarnock’s Palace Theatre and Grand Hall complex has been marked by a site visit from local politicians. East Ayrshire Council members were joined by MP Lilian Jones at the location, with work having been carried out internally over recent months to make the site safe ahead of the next stages of regeneration.
The project is being delivered by McLaughlin & Harvey, with completion scheduled for early 2028. The project will deliver improved seating, upgraded technical facilities, enhanced accessibility, and a refreshed public realm – creating a welcoming environment for audiences and performers alike.
Callum Haining, operations manager at McLaughlin & Harvey, said, “We’re proud to be delivering this important phase of the cultural Kilmarnock project. This build represents a major step forward in creating a modern cultural landmark, and we’re delighted to welcome stakeholders to see the progress firsthand.”
East Ayrshire Council leader Douglas Reid added, “This redevelopment is about more than bricks and mortar – it’s about creating a space where our community can come together, enjoy world-class performances, and feel proud of East Ayrshire’s cultural heritage. We’re excited to see the transformation taking shape.”
Anneke Freel, chief officer at East Ayrshire Leisure Trust, which operates the venue, commented, “The Palace Theatre and Grand Hall has always been at the heart of East Ayrshire’s cultural life. This redevelopment will allow us to offer even more exciting events, attract high profile acts and support the performing arts pathway for young people, ensuring that everyone in our community has access to high-quality arts and entertainment.”
