KIRBY Group Engineering has been named Iberdrola’s Supplier of the Year at a ceremony hosted by the global energy specialist in Bilbao, Spain.

The company has been working with Scottish Power – a subsidiary of Iberdrola – for 13 years and has offices in Aberdeen and Glasgow.

Kirby is a family-founded firm with its headquarters in the Irish city of Limerick and has operations across Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, mainland Europe, the Nordics, and South Africa. It employs over 1,900 people and provides specialist high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) design and construction services as well as full mechanical and electrical contracting services.

This latest award recognises Kirby’s longstanding partnership and expertise in delivering complex high voltage/medium voltage (HV/MV) network projects for Iberdrola subsidiary, SP Energy Networks, in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK

Last year the company was announced as a preferred partner for SP Energy Networks’ record £5.4 billion contract program, which represents the biggest overhaul of the GB electricity grid since its inception.

The recent awards event at Iberdrola’s corporate headquarters brought together people from over 100 countries around the world. Kirby’s director for power & renewables and group business development director, Michael Murray accepted the award from Iberdrola chief executive officer, Pedro Azagra.

Michael paid tribute to Scottish Power and the partnership built up between the two companies. He said, “Receiving such a prestigious award is a milestone day for Kirby and demonstrates the capability and commitment of our people, particularly within our Scottish and UK business. We were delighted to have been nominated for this award by colleagues at ScottishPower and I’m very proud to collect it on behalf of our team. We’re very much looking forward to further strengthening our relationship with ScottishPower and Iberdrola into the future.”
