DEMOLITION work is nearing completion on a former cinema building in Lochgelly town centre.

The building was severely damaged by a fire in November and work to demolish it has been ongoing since, with work expected to be completed by the end of January.

As work nears completion, the local authority has confirmed that it is safe to reopen the nearby Bank Street.

Garry Nicol, Fife Council service manager for building standards, said, “We have a statutory duty to act if a building is dangerous and after the fire, the building posed an immediate danger to the public.

“As the building was unstable, an exclusion zone had to be put in place until the work is finished and I’m delighted that we’re now able to relax this before Christmas.”
