COATBRIDGE-based KRG Specialist Engineering has been acquired by Torishima, an engineering group headquartered in Japan.

The move brings new foreign direct investment into Scotland’s engineering base and is tipped to position KRG for expansion in high-growth sectors including defence, renewables, hydrogen and subsea technologies. The company’s leadership, workforce and operations will remain in Scotland, with further investment planned to grow capability and capacity.

Founded in 1978, KRG is a family-run high-tolerance machining specialist, supplying mission-critical components to industries that rely on precision and reliability.

MD Gerry Hughes said, “This is a major milestone for KRG and for Scottish engineering. Joining the Torishima Group gives us the backing of a global leader while allowing us to remain firmly rooted in Coatbridge. It means more investment in skills, technology and apprenticeships, and strengthens Scotland’s position in sectors where precision engineering is absolutely vital.”

Steven McColl, MD of Torishima Service Solutions Europe, added, “KRG’s reputation for technical excellence and high-precision capability aligns strongly with our own values. Their expertise enhances Torishima’s offering across Europe, and we are delighted to welcome a company with such deep Scottish engineering heritage into the group.”
