MORE than £1 million is to be invested in the Stranraer Railway Line this month as Network Rail gears up for essential improvements to the route.

Between November 28 and December 8, teams will carry out vital drainage upgrades along key sections of track – using over 2,000 tonnes of materials to help prevent flooding and keep services running reliably. Markdh No.1 Level Crossing will also be upgraded, and structures and embankments will be inspected.

The project is part of Network Rail’s commitment to improving the long-term resilience and reliability of the route, helping ensure it remains a trusted transport connection for the south west.

Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland, said, “We’re investing in essential improvements to help keep this route reliable for the communities that depend on it. Strengthening drainage and inspecting key assets will help make the line more resilient to Scotland’s challenging weather, ensuring services can continue to run smoothly.

“We know this work means short term changes to journeys, and we apologise for any inconvenience it will cause. Our teams will be working hard to complete the upgrades as quickly and safely as possible, and we appreciate passengers’ patience while we deliver this important project.”
