REID Mitchell and HD Property Consultants have announced a merger to form a single, integrated construction consultancy providing project management, cost management, building surveying, CDM consultancy, and fund monitoring services.

The new venture, called Reid Mitchell HD, is said to combine complementary strengths to deliver ‘premium’ construction consultancy services for public and private sector clients across the UK.

Both Reid Mitchell and HD Property Consultants were founded in 2018 and have grown organically. Following the merger, Reid Mitchell HD has also transitioned to employee ownership, adopting a model described as securing the independence of the combined business and aligning with the values and culture built by both firms.

“Clients increasingly demand accountability from their consultants,” said Donald Reid, one of the founding directors of Reid Mitchell. “From the first discussion with Drew and his team, it was clear that both businesses were completely aligned in our commitment to delivering exceptional services for our clients. By bringing the businesses together we are immediately extending our service offering to our respective clients.”

Drew Russell, a founding director of HD Property Consultants, added, “Both businesses have been built by delivering a director-led, premium service to our clients. This merger continues this ethos and will provide our clients with access to new services and a deeper pool of resource whilst maintaining our focus on service. The merger supports our continued investment in innovation and growth, enabling us to compete effectively for larger scale commissions and frameworks.”

The business revealed that existing contracts, frameworks, project teams and contact points remain in place with no change to the existing service delivery model.

In explaining the reasoning behind the transition to employee ownership, Greig Mitchell, one of the founding directors of Reid Mitchell, commented, “The employee ownership model works for our new business – our commitment to our team has been at the forefront of the growth of both businesses. We have grown a team of exceptional individuals who consistently deliver for our clients with a commitment to service. Employee ownership enables us to continue our current path, motivating and empowering the collective team, and supporting us to continue to recruit the best people in our industry.”

The merger brings together a team of 38 across offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh. A new Aberdeen office is also being launched in December with a view to growing the client base in the north east and servicing existing framework instructions.

Reid Mitchell HD was supported through the merger and transition to employee ownership by Beattie Muir, Lindsays and Co-ownership Solutions.
