NETWORK Rail engineers are continuing urgent repairs to overhead line equipment at Glasgow Central station following damage earlier today.
An early morning incident caused damage to overhead wires, leading to significant disruption to trains coming in and out of Scotland’s busiest railway station.
Teams responded immediately and have been working throughout the day to carry out inspections and make temporary repairs as quickly and safely as possible. An investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the damage.
While the majority of platforms at Glasgow Central are open, Network Rail said that passengers should expect disruption for the rest of today as repairs continue.
Separately, engineers have also completed emergency work on the Ayrshire line after overhead wires were damaged between Dalry and Kilwinning. These repairs have now finished, and the route is fully open.
Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland, said, “Our teams were quick to respond and understand the extent of the damage and repairs required. Platforms have reopened and services are resuming. However, this work will continue tonight to fully complete the repairs.
“I’d like to thank passengers for their patience and understanding while we complete this work. Restoring normal service as quickly as possible is our top priority, and we appreciate your support as we get the job done.”
