Build of new pavilion underway in Aberdeen

ELLON-based JKR Contractors has commenced work on the build of a new modern pavilion at Harlaw Playing Fields, on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.

The local authority said the new pavilion will be a ‘huge improvement’ on current facilities for pupils and staff at Harlaw Academy.

The new building will allow PE staff to be based at the site and will reduce time spent by pupils travelling the short distance to Harlaw Road rather than the current site at Groats Road beside Hazlehead Park.

Aberdeen City Council co-leader, councillor Ian Yuill, said, “The new pavilion for Harlaw Academy pupils and staff will be a major improvement on the current facilities. This new pavilion is part of the council’s key focus on providing the best possible education and education facilities for Aberdeen’s young people.”

The purpose of the new pavilion is to provide a PE facility which meets the future needs of the school and local community. The building will also reduce energy costs and future maintenance costs and provide capacity to support a future predicted increase in school roll.

Works have already been carried out to demolish the existing pavilion ahead of the main works, due to its condition and health and safety concerns.
