Savills launches new Cala homes on historic Glasgow site

SAVILLS has been appointed by Cala Homes (West) to launch a new housing development in the Cathcart area of Glasgow.

The Foundry development will offer a collection of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as two- and three-bedroom penthouses.

Each home features a private outdoor space, lift access, and access to landscaped communal and residents’ gardens, as well as allocated parking for the two and three-bedroom apartments. The development also incorporates a fully electric, ground-source heat pump network.

The site, still fondly known by locals as “Weirs pumps,” was once home to the Holm Foundry, where engineering pioneers George and James Weir established G & J Weir in the late 19th century. The Cathcart works became a hub of innovation, producing steam pumps, aircraft engines, and contributing to wartime manufacturing.

Savills said that interest in the development has been strong, with a number of homes already sold from the first release.

Pamela Scott, of Savills Glasgow, commented, “The Foundry is a truly exciting launch for Glasgow’s Southside. It’s rare to find a development that combines such a rich industrial heritage with forward-thinking design and green technology. Buyers are responding to the lifestyle and legacy this site offers — it’s a place with real character and a proud history.”
