BE-ST (Built Environment – Smarter Transformation) has refreshed its board with the appointment of eight key figures from the built environment and construction sectors.

The new members bring experience in retrofit, sustainability, property, energy, digital, innovation, and infrastructure.

This move comes at the end of a serving period for several outgoing members of the board who have supported the progress, governance, and strategic direction of BE-ST.

The new board members, who will serve their tenure alongside 13 existing board members, and board observers from Scottish Funding Council and Scottish Government, are said to have been selected to complement existing board members’ skills and expertise.

As the organisation enters the next phase of its mission to accelerate the built environment’s just transition to zero carbon, the board will is tasked with supporting and challenging the executive team, driving the strategic direction and performance of BE-ST, and engaging with a range of wider BE-ST initiatives, key partnerships, and stakeholders.

Stephen Good, CEO of BE-ST, said, “I want to say a huge thank you to the outgoing board members who have supported us over recent years, during which we have delivered some of our biggest programmes and initiatives to date, including our rebrand to BE-ST, our transition from a five-year programme, to a long-term, SFC funded national innovation infrastructure asset, launching BE-ST Fest, the International Retrofit Conference and our Accelerate to Zero Awards, completing the retrofit of Scotland’s National Retrofit Centre at our Innovation Campus, and opening the Mass Timber Centre of Excellence, to name a few.

“Looking to the journey ahead, the team and I are really excited to get to work with and learn from our new board members and see how their expertise and guidance will further our mission.”

Nicola Barclay, chair of the board, added, “It is my pleasure as chair to welcome these new members onto the board. The BE-ST board plays a vital role in supporting the success of BE-ST and driving its mission to decarbonise the built environment. As we move forward with a focus on scaling solutions and creating a viable path to a sustainable future, I am confident that the diversity of experience on this refreshed board and the diversity of experience they bring will be an asset to the team and partners of the Innovation Centre.”
