BARRATT and David Wilson Homes Scotland have announced their support for the new Homes for Scotland ‘Homes Build Futures‘ campaign.

The housebuilders said they recognise the significant impact that the housing emergency is having on communities – particularly young people and growing families – and that ‘urgent action’ is required to increase supply across all tenures.

With 693,000 households described as being in some form of housing need, 250,000 people on waiting lists, and a shortfall of more than 110,000 homes accumulated since 2008, Barratt and David Wilson Homes said the scale of the challenge cannot be ignored.

Alison Condie, regional MD, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Scotland, said, “With our representative body, Homes for Scotland, spearheading the Homes Build Futures campaign, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Scotland fully support its call for a national all-tenure target of at least 25,000 new homes each year, alongside a planning system that enables delivery and targeted support for SME builders. These are vital steps if Scotland is to reverse the current downward trend in housing delivery and secure the wide-ranging social and economic benefits that come with building more homes.

“For Barratt and David Wilson Homes Scotland, this is not just about bricks and mortar. It is about creating opportunities, improving health and education outcomes, supporting jobs, and ensuring that future generations have the security of a place to call home. That is why the business is backing the Homes Build Futures campaign and encouraging others to get involved and add their voice.”
